Evaluating the Drying Characteristics of Paddy Rice Using Superheated Steam Dryer

It has been recorded in literature that superheated steam the ability to combine parboiling operation (steaming and drying) of paddy (Oryza sativa - UPL1) rice into a single unit. According literature, this process not fully explored implemented processing. In research work, dryer was used parboil (steam dry) rice. Soaking time temperature 12hours at 60°C, with steaming ranging from 10 24mins, while drying conditions were; (160, 170 180°C), bed depth (1, 3 5cm) tempering (20 40 minutes). addition, dried initial moisture content 26-43% (d.b) final 2 – 8% (d.b). observed milled yield ranged 71.32 94.5%, head 70.5 90.6%, broken 3.2 7.7%, chalkiness 3.4 10.6% capacity 0.1 0.36kg/h. The results obtained shows can be improve quality.
